2009 PACE Goals
Goal 1: Structure - Develop an operating structure for PACE
Objective 1: By December 31, 2008, PACE will
establish a committee structure and develop a continuity of operations
plan.
Strategies:
1. Identify Committee Chair and Co-Chair, Mike Cuppy and Alfredo Kemm
2. Develop a leadership transition strategy
3. Establish committee coordination (i.e. minutes, notices)
4. Establish working sub-committees
5. Establish information dissemination (i.e. PACE blog)
Goal 2: Community Processes – Learn public structure and
participate in established community committee procedures.
Objective 1: By January 31, 2009, PACE members
will identify community boards and committees that PACE members should
attend.
Strategies:
1. Select PACE members to attend meetings and report back.
Objective 2: By September 1, 2009,
PACE members will participate in City, County, PACOG, Urban Renewal Authority,
State and Federal committee procedures.
Strategies:
1. Identify key community leader to champion walkability and bikeability.
2. Be present and be a voice for a walkable, bikeable, sustainable and
an active community.
3. Influence planning procedures at the community committee level.
Goal 3: New Development – Involvement in new development,
housing and building plans for the community.
Objective 1: From September 1, 2008 to September
1, 2010, PACE members will review new development ordinances/policies
to create a more walkable, bikeable, sustainable and active community
(i.e. University Campus and northeast developments).
Strategies:
1. Identify PACE’s role in affecting ordinances, policies, design
standards and codes.
2. Meet with new developers to present ideas from PACE on walkability
and bikeability.
Objective 2: From September 1, 2008 to September
1, 2010, PACE members will meet with Transportation Department(s) to create
a more connected community through public transportation, walkability
and bikeability.
Strategies:
1. Identify PACE’s role in affecting ordinances, policies, design
standards and codes.
2. Meet with transportation leaders to present ideas from PACE on connectivity,
walkability and bikeability.
Goal 4: Redevelopment and Existing Projects – Involvement
in redevelopment and existing projects, housing and building plans for
the community.
Objective 1: From September 1, 2008 to September
1, 2010, PACE members will participate in redevelopment and existing projects
and ordinances/policies to create a more walkable, bikeable, sustainable
and active community (i.e. Lake Avenue).
Strategies:
1. Identify PACE’s role in affecting ordinances, policies, design
standards and codes.
2. Meet with planners, Urban Renewal and developers to present ideas from
PACE on walkability and bikeability.
Objective 2: From September 1, 2008 to September
1, 2010, PACE members will meet with Transportation Department(s) to create
a more connected community through public transportation, walkability
and bikeability.
Strategies:
1. Identify PACE’s role in affecting ordinances, policies, design
standards and codes.
2. Meet with transportation leaders to present ideas from PACE on connectivity,
walkability and bikeability.
Goal 5: Creating Business, Arts and Cultural District in Downtown
Pueblo – Involvement in bringing business, arts and cultural viability
to Pueblo’s downtown while promoting walkability and bikeability.
Objective 1: From September 1, 2008 to September
1, 2010, PACE members will participate in downtown redevelopment projects
to create a more walkable, bikeable, sustainable and active community
(i.e. Downtown, Mid-Town, Judicial Corridor).
Strategies:
1. Identify PACE’s role in affecting ordinances, policies, design
standards and codes.
2. Meet with planners, Urban Renewal and developers to present ideas from
PACE on walkability and bikeability.
3. Organize and provide walking tours of downtown and Mid-Town areas with
community leaders and interested participants to determine walkability.
Objective 2: From September 1, 2008 to September
1, 2010, PACE members will meet with Transportation Department(s) to create
a more connected community through public transportation, walkability
and bikeability.
Strategies:
1. Identify PACE’s role in affecting ordinances, policies, design
standards and codes.
2. Meet with transportation leaders to present ideas from PACE on connectivity,
walkability and bikeability.
Goal 6: Grants, Funding and Best Practices Sources – Develop
and funding and best practices resource expertise around walkability,
bikeability, sustainable and active communities.
Objective 1: From January 1, 2009 and ongoing,
PACE members will seek funding opportunities to create a walkable, bikeable,
sustainable and active Pueblo.
Strategies:
1. Educate Pueblo developers/large landowners on economic viability of
funding redevelopment projects to include walkable, bikeable, sustainable
and active community concepts.
2. PACE Committee will become knowledgeable about funding sources and
share expertise with local groups around walkable, bikeable and sustainbable
communities.
3. Promote public-private/multiple funding source and participant projects.
4. Research and identify possible grant writers, funding and grant opportunities
and matching sources that widen or expand specific projects’ areas
of improvement.
5. Collaborate with the City and County on government grants that improve
walkability and bikeability.
6. Collaborate with the City, County and School Districts on writing grants
to improve walk- ability and bikeability to schools.
